Good morning all,

Junior Finals
Good news – our U14B Gold team won through to a home Grand Final next Friday with an impressive 9 wicket win in the Semi-Final. After a couple of tight overs from Sam and Aidan, the boys started nervously, with Doncaster batting first and looking good at 1/66 off 16 overs. Something needed to change and to the boys credit, they took two great catches to turn the game. From that point on, their confidence grew and the momentum swung our way. After 25 overs, Doncaster finished on 6/92, which is a great comeback. Wickets were shared, but it was the four excellent catches that stood out (including 3 one-handers) from Hamish, Kaelan, Jack and Dhruv. Note: Ex-Nuna player Parth Grover batted very well and retired on 20 off 30 balls.

Aidan S 3 overs 1 wicket/5 runs
Kaelan B 3 overs 1/6, 1 catch
Jack K 2 overs 1/8, 1 catch
Zac W 2 overs 1/1
Max M 2 overs 1/3

Our batting innings started solidly with Anhad and Dhruv hitting the ball well. It was the big six that Dhruv hit at the end of the 4th over that gave us the momentum we needed. Anhad then took 15 off the 6th over including a beautiful hook shot for 6 over fine leg, which left us 0/44 off 6 overs. Unfortunately Anhad was run out the following over, but the run rate did not slow down with Zac and Dhruv going at a run a ball for the next 3 or 4 overs. Dhruv retired on 30 off 30 balls, a well-measured innings. Zac and Hamish finished the job to get a 9 wicket win and confidence going into a Grand Final against Heatherdale next Friday. Please come down to the middle oval next Friday to help the boys win another premiership flag for Nuna.

Dhruv N 30 off 30 balls (retired)
Anhad K 24 off 23 balls
Zac W 16 off 18 balls (not out)
Hamish K 9 off 7 balls (not out)

Super proud of how the boys bounced back and then clinically finished the game…well done!

Juniors playing Senior finals
Although we wake up to a soggy morning, our First and Second XI are playing in Semi-Finals over this weekend (Sunday as reserve day). The Firsts finished 3rd and play at East Burwood Reserve vs Box Hill North Superkings, with Max Warburton (U18 Captain) flying the Junior flag. That team’s nucleus is made up of true Nuna boys and the future of the club. Our Seconds finished 2nd and have a home final on Bob Saker Oval vs Burwood District. This team has played 3-4 Juniors all season and they have all stood up at different times. Jacob Mitchell (U18), Liam Fraser (U18), Josh Millar (U16) and Josh Paton (U18) gives us the youthful energy we need to make it through to a Grand Final! Come along and support the boys!

Cricket over winter – why not try indoor cricket?

Whilst there is no formal winter cricket at Nuna, we do encourage kids to keep working on their game. One way to do that is to try indoor cricket. I encourage you to get a group of friends together and enter a team. If you are looking for a team, let me know and we will try to see whether there might be a spot on another team. I know that there are at least two Nuna teams playing at Box Hill Indoor Sports.

Details:
– Games played on a Tuesday night
– Game times: 4.30, 5.30 or 6.30
– 6 players per side
– Season dates 26/4-21/6 & 12/7-13/9

They are also running intro to indoor cricket sessions on 29/03 & 5/4 at 4.30 or 5.30pm.

RIP SK Warne
On a sad day for cricket with the passing of an icon and King of Spin, Shane Warne it is important that we remember that this is a great game and we are so lucky to be able to enjoy community sport. These last two years have taught us not to take anything for granted and today’s news also reminds us to make the most of every day!
